Providence Over Plans

We make our plans. God writes our story.
The Four Groups vs. The Believer
People often fall into four groups. Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, those who wonder what happened – and then there are Christians. Christians know that behind every redeemed life stands the sovereign providence of God.
Paul reminds us that it is God who works in us. Not only to do His will, but even to desire it. Salvation is never the product of human determination.
Heaven’s Fingerprints
Before our hands move in obedience, God has already awakened our hearts by His grace. Holy desires are heaven’s fingerprints upon the soul.
Nor do we obey in our own strength. The God who commands also empowers. Grace does not merely pardon us. Grace sustains us. Every step of faith is upheld by the God who first ordained it
This is the beautiful doctrine of providence. Our lives are not governed by chance, coincidence, or blind fate. They unfold beneath the wise, loving, and sovereign hand of our heavenly Father, who works all things according to the counsel of His will.
Reframing Delays
I have seen this personally. More than twenty years ago, I was preparing to move to Australia. At the last moment, an unexpected invitation redirected me to New Zealand. The next fifteen years were marked by detours, disappointments, and quiet preparation. Only later did I realise that God had not interrupted my plans. He was accomplishing His own. What appeared to be delay was, in reality, divine direction.
Jesus said, “Without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Not less. Not little. Nothing.
Providence is God’s invisible hand accomplishing His visible purposes.
As J.C. Ryle wrote, “Nothing whatever, whether great or small, can happen to a believer, without God’s ordering and permission.”
