I remember hearing a story about an old man walking along the beach early one morning after a big storm which washed up thousands of starfish. The old man noticed a young boy in the distance throwing things into the water. As he got closer, the old man asked the young boy what he was doing. The boy answered and said he was throwing the starfish back into the water.
The old man said that there must be tens of thousands of washed-up starfish on the beach, and he would not make much of a difference. The young boy picked up another one, and threw it back into the water, turned to the old man and said, “well, it makes a difference to that one.”
The Apostle Paul recounts in 2 Corinthians 11 the cost of following Jesus. He endured suffering out of his deep commitment to Christ and His Church.
In contrast, Jesus told a story of a rich young ruler who asked Jesus what else must he do to have eternal life other than keeping the commandments. Jesus said to him to go and sell all his possessions and give to the poor. The rich young man turned and left Jesus with great disappointment as he was a wealthy man.
Jesus speaks of a poor widow who gave all she had, that she gave out of her poverty compared to those who had much more. (Mark 12:41-44).
King David said that he would not offer the Lord anything which has not cost him anything. (2 Samuel 24:18-25).
The ultimate cost of all, was paid by our Lord and Saviour who left the side of His Father’s throne, to become flesh so He could be the sacrificial lamb, so we could receive eternal life.
For every gift received or gifted, there is always a cost, a sacrifice. The greater the cost, the sacrifice, is an indication of the heart posture, condition, and level of obedience.
“A man’s gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men.” (Proverbs 18:16). It creates opportunities, it opens doors to dreams, and grants favour from the Lord.
For the young boy, he didn’t see the size of the problem on the beach. Rather, he saw the opportunities and the potential for each starfish, when thrown back in the water.
PKNZ at this moment, is like the young boy on the beach. With our hearts for the men in this nation, we are ploughing through in this new season of PK 2.0. We are praying to God for an acceleration of revival in the hearts of the men in our wonderful country.
We know, it requires a team of people, a village, and we are so grateful for the many of you who have sown into the PK ministry, and we pray that you would continue. We ask for more to join us by praying and giving financially to PK’s work.
As we approach the end of the financial year, I ask that you pray about making a financial contribution to PKNZ. Together we can make a difference in our communities, our churches, and in our families.
May your obedience and heart for God through this ministry, be blessed in abundance in the Lord’s goodness.
In His richest blessings
