A Message for This Moment
Whilst driving up to Auckland last Thursday, two days before the Promise Keepers Event last Saturday, 2 August, the Lord was speaking to me about Moses and the burning bush. I felt strongly that the Lord was highlighting Exodus 3 for the men at the event. Leading up to it, we put out a call for people to commit to praying for the event. We too sought the Lord’s kindness that people would have an encounter with Him at the event.
After 40 years of tending to his father-in-law Jethro’s sheep, Moses met with God in an unimaginable way. So much so Moses couldn’t believe his eyes – seeing a bush on fire but it wasn’t burning. As he tried to get closer to really see how this could be happening, it was then the Lord called out his name and said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for this place where you stand is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5)
After living in the household of an idol worshipper for 40 years, it was time for Moses to be reminded why he was set apart for such a time as this. First though, he needed to humble himself and be reminded that He is; “… the God of your (Moses) father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (verse 6). Moses experienced the fear of the Lord so much so that he hid his face from looking upon God.

As I write this, I also sense that the event marked a new season for Promise Keepers NZ (PKNZ). On Saturday afternoon during a break, Paul Subritzky pulled me aside and said that “this is a new season for PKNZ.” He repeated this line about three times. I took it in like a good apprentice. I’ve learned a long time ago that when the elders speak, us young guys need to shut up and listen. The very next thing he said to me was about the importance of humility.
We witnessed men both young and old, fill the front of the church with hearts full of hunger for the Lord’s presence. But even before there was a call to respond to, one guy abandoning all pride, barely made it to the front, where he lay face-down and wailed so loud like he was the only one in the venue.
This is the humility that God was calling Moses to have. It’s the humility that God was turning my attention to on the way to Auckland before the event. Finally, this is the humility that Paul was reminding me to have, if we are ever going to enter into the presence of God in this new season for PKNZ.

All our speakers including the panel, brought God’s Word for the moment and for this season. The worship band and the choir ushered in the presence of God, leading the men in one of the most powerful worship times I’ve experienced. Close to a hundred volunteers made the event possible, including those who donated before and on event day. Then there are faithful hearts who continue to partner financially with PK on a regular basis, and those who partner with us in prayer. We need more prayer partners in this new, tough, season spiritually.
However, we are excited and are ready to plough new grounds for this ministry to lead and disciple men to Christ, and we are seeing God’s hand already at work.
My heart is full, my kete (basket) is full, but I am hungry to see more of God in the lives of the men of this great nation.
In His richest blessings
