“The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.” (Nahum 1:7)
In life’s fiercest storms, where do we turn for safety? Nahum 1:7 offers the answer: God’s protection is not just a promise but a reality for those who trust Him. It reminds us that amidst the chaos, God remains unchanging – our refuge, strength, and shield.
“The Lord is good,” Nahum declares. This goodness is not superficial or fleeting but enduring and all-encompassing. God’s goodness reaches into the darkest days, offering mercy, grace, and steadfast love to sustain us.
When trouble strikes, God is described as a “stronghold” – a fortified place of safety. This is more than poetic imagery; it is a promise of divine security. In His strength, we find a shelter that cannot be shaken, no matter how fierce the attack.
Finally, God’s care is personal and intimate. He “knows those who trust in Him.” To be known by God is to be cherished, watched over, and guarded with a love that will never let go.
Deuteronomy 31:8 echoes this truth: “And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” In His goodness, strength, and knowledge, we are completely secure.
Thomas Watson, a preacher and author from the 17th Century (c. 1620-1686), once said, “God is an impregnable refuge to His people; they are preserved in the midst of danger, not by human force, but by the arm of the Almighty.” Trust Him, for in His care, we are truly safe.
