John Lennon famously wrote, “All you need is love”, but he didn’t know where to find it. We do. The Apostle John declared, “God is love”. (1 John 4:8)
We are carriers of His love. Too often, this lies dormant, but we can activate it and declare God’s love.
Recently, I was in a shop when a young lady, an employee, offered to help me find something. As we chatted, I felt led to guide the conversation to a blessing. I said to her: “May the love of God surround you, and fill you, and may you know in the deepest part of your being how much He loves you, how precious you are, and what a treasure you are in His eyes.”
Even before I uttered a word, Holy Spirit went ahead, and she began to weep. As I finished, she wiped her tears and said, “It’s getting hot.” She was shocked. Afterward, I sent her my eBook, The Awesome Power of Blessing, from my phone, which she promised to read. I don’t know where this encounter will lead, but one thing I’m sure of - she won’t forget the experience of the Presence of Holy Spirit.
In that moment, I felt His love and His pleasure. It reminded me that as Christians, we carry the presence of God - the fragrance of Holy Spirit. Even with all my faults, He chooses to remain with me, allowing His love to flow through me.
“Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death, and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?” (2 Corinthians 2:14-16).
We can look for everyday moments to share the fragrance of Christ, to share His love.
I was at a restaurant and a busy waitress delivered our food. Later, as she cleared the plates, I started a brief conversation. I asked if I could speak a blessing over her: “I bless you in the name of Jesus. May the love of God surround you, fill you, and give you a revelation in the deepest part of your being, that He sees you, He knows your name, and He loves you.”
Her eyes filled with tears, but she quickly wiped them to continue working. Later, I gave her one of my little blessing books.
Last year, in Rotorua, I had a conversation with a manager at a café. The next day, I called in and blessed her. All the pain in her leg disappeared instantly. When I asked why she was weeping she said, “It was like my heart got healed, all the yucky stuff, the hurt inside me, was leaving my body and… I felt this love - a whole new different kind of love - that I wanted to stay in forever.”
In 1 John 4:8 we read, “God is love”. We are carriers of His love. I see myself as a “love machine,” with a love field extending about two metres around me. If someone steps into that space, they’ll get a “love bomb” and maybe more. But it’s up to me to activate it.
Remember, we grow in love by giving it away. Declare His love. Release His blessings. Watch how the fragrance of Christ touches those around you.
