A moment that changed everything...
Peter Meyer says, "I was on crutches, facing surgery, and in agony. Then, I felt a 'stitching' sensation and a warmth I’d never felt before - and suddenly, I was walking pain-free in front of 800 people."
This Saturday 15 August, we’re unpacking what it means to be Alive in Christ. Check out Peter Meyer’s full story below and our upcoming Auckland event.
Alive in Christ
by Peter Meyer - The first time I read Ephesians 2:4-5, I was excited and filled with joy, but I also had questions:
“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)”
I have read this passage several times – it is one of my favourites.
Thankfully for me, this passage of scripture was chosen collectively by the Promise Keepers Board as the theme scripture for this year and this year’s main event in August. It was a Holy Spirit led moment, and I can assure you that I was silent because I didn’t want to influence this decision. Instead I let the other great men of God on our Board decide this without my bias for this passage.
Early in my Christian walk, I questioned what “made us alive together with Christ” meant. This was answered at a corporate meeting years ago. The lead up to this meeting is a vital part of my story…
I was at church, and the Sunday church notices were up. There was a corporate gathering happening in a few weeks’ time, at a venue some 70kms away, with an entry fee. Various leaders from different churches were gathering for it and sharing the Word. My wife and I decided to attend the meeting. I had no idea how impactful and life-changing that event would be for me.
The day before the meeting, I fell on a construction site, twisted my leg and was unable to walk! I was on crutches, facing possible surgery, and in absolute agony. Being self-employed at the time, no work equalled no pay. I thought, this could cost me my business! But I had an expectation of being healed at the meeting, as I had heard and read about Jesus healing people. I was in agony when we arrived at the meeting. I’d had no pain meds because I forgot to take them. I hobbled onto a seat.
Then the Pastor said those needing prayer please standup. Well, it was no easy task for me! Holding onto the chair in front of me, I was balancing on one leg, when a man from the adjoining aisle started to pray over me. Right away, I felt a “stitching” happening in my leg and warmth I had never felt before. I realised this could only be the Holy Spirit!
I was called up to the front to share, and I hobbled forward on crutches. After further prayer I WALKED normally back to my seat, completely pain-free, in front of about 800 people. Thank You Jesus! Right then I knew what, “made us alive together with Christ,” really meant.
The spiritual growth I had there has transformed my life! It started with one believer stepping up in obedience, in a setting that was unfamiliar to me, and it changed how I read the Bible.
