God will make a way… where there seems to be no way.
God can do anything He chooses, except lie. I say this often, and it is true. Love cannot lie, and the Bible tells us that God is love!
God can change His mind. However, I believe this is His way of leading us to exactly where He wants us. A few significant times during my life experience I have been walking closely with God and trusting that I have heard Him correctly. Sometimes He appears to divert my focus to something else entirely and I am left wondering why!
I have learnt that this can happen with any project, whether I am involved or not. Until recently I believed that repentance required a 180-degree turn. More recently I have started looking for the ‘course corrections’ that God has for me. This is a little like the course change in yachting because the umpires can see there is going to be problems if the course is left unchanged.
So, I accept that because God can ‘do all but one thing’, I can trust Him to change the course in any way He chooses. Sometimes that involves a 180-degree turn, like Abraham who was told to take Isaac (his son) up the mountain and sacrifice him. (See Genesis 22.) That did not make sense, and even a 30-degree course correction would have been unacceptable. It was either be obedient to God and sacrifice Isaac or save Isaac and lose his relationship with God.
My most recent experience of this was when my wife Anna wanted to move to England to be around ‘as a grandparent’ to our now one-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter. This was something my wife had been talking about for years, and I never felt comfortable with the idea. I didn’t want to go, but she needed to!
Neither one of us was wrong in our thoughts and needs, but I saw no way that our marriage could work with a distance of 18,543km between us. I anguished over this, and even good friends I shared with were understandably not able to offer more than a sympathetic response to my situation.
But, as I said in the beginning, ‘God will make a way, where there seems to be no way’ (it’s also a great song: Click here to listen to this song on YouTube: God Will Make a Way). God made the impossible, possible!
