God is Planning Something, Don’t Miss It

God has a plan. Together let's discover what that is.

Why I had to change my plans (A personal note from Frank)

We often think we’re the ones managing the schedule, but what happens when God decides to rewrite the agenda? Today Frank Po Ching shares a powerful story of how a simple misunderstanding led to a profound realisation about what God is preparing for the men of New Zealand this August.

God is Planning Something, Don’t Miss It

By Frank Po Ching - I first met Lucky Te Koha via a telephone conversation early in 2025, when I rang to invite him to be one of our speakers at the Promise Keepers Auckland Event later that year. After giving him some event details, Lucky mentioned that he was already penciled to speak at the Kingdom Brotherhood conference in Auckland on the same weekend. However, he said, it would be his first time speaking at a PK conference, and that he would get back to me to confirm. A couple of days later, Lucky called to say he was available to attend to speak at the PK 2025 event.

Approximately a month later, I emailed Lucky that we now had a program draft, and that he was one of five people on a panel to be interviewed by Andrew Urquhart. He called me back a short time later to clarify if he was on the panel or if he was speaking as per our initial conversation. He reminded me that after my initial call, he moved a few things around to suit us. I apologised to Lucky for the misunderstanding. He was so gracious and kind and said he would still be interested in being part of the event and to be on the panel.

Two weeks after that call with Lucky, I was in Auckland for a couple of nights. I caught up with my former men’s group for dinner one evening. They asked how PK was going, so I proceeded to tell them about the PK 30-year celebration event in 2024. I told them about young Joseph who turned 10-years-old on the same day as the celebration, who, instead of celebrating his birthday with his friends, he decided to attend the PK event with his grandfather.

PKNZ celebrates 30 years of ministry
Joseph-Rangi chose to celebrate his 10th birthday with his Dad and Grandfather at the PK 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2024. Here Joseph-Rangi is cutting the PK cake with then PKNZ Director Frank Po Ching.

I explained the background of how Joseph came to be in the photo cutting the large birthday cake we organised for the Friday night celebration dinner, and how all 125 people sung Joseph Happy Birthday.

I told them the original plan was to have all the former PK leaders stand behind the cake and former director Paul Subritzky would cut the cake for a photo opportunity. But when I was told about Joseph attending the PK celebration on his 10th birthday, I changed the plan. However when I went to greet Joseph and his grandfather, just prior to the PK celebration, I was immediately disappointed that the Joseph I had pictured, did not match the kid I was now looking at. Just as quickly as I was thinking about changing the plan back to the original plan, the Lord spoke to me and said, “I’m sending Joseph as a prophetic picture of what Promise Keepers will look like in the new season.”

This is Lucky Te Koha speaking at PK 2025 Auckland Event. He's also speaking at PK 2026 Auckland Event on 15 August 2026.

In that moment, I felt the word of the Lord speaking to me saying, “I sent Joseph in 2024, and now I’m sending Lucky for the 2025 event.” I immediately knew that I had disobeyed the Lord. In the following days, I discussed with my team that Lucky would be one of the speakers. I then called him to give him the news. Knowing Lucky and his relationship with the Lord, he probably knew that I would be calling back.

You see, when we initially sent out the speakers line up, Lucky’s picture was one of them. But days following, I had a number of people call me and ask if I was sure Lucky should be speaking on the PK platform. Some of these people had never seen or heard Lucky speak before. They were respectful in their warnings. However, it caused great concerns for me which was why I changed Lucky from being a speaker to being on the panel. How totally wrong was I to try and control what God was doing.

“Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face evermore!” Psalm 105:4)

After 30 years of Promise Keepers ministry in this country, God is now going to take PK into a season where all His sons – young and old, those who have never stepped foot in a PK event, will come into the doors to worship the Living King, the Almighty God, with the rest of the men. God doesn’t look at how scruffy, or how rough they look. He’s going to look right at their hearts – hungry for the touch of the Son, hungry to have an encounter with the Father whose love is deeper than the deepest blue ocean.

That is what I’m believing for this PK Event on Saturday 15 August 2026. I believe the Father is going to show up on 15 August to encounter His sons, pouring out His love in measures we’ve never seen before.

“Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face evermore!” (Psalm 105:4). When His sons worship in one heart, He promised He will show up. So we need to expect it, and we need to believe it.

See you all on Saturday 15 August.

Blessings,

P.S. Join us this Friday 17 July on Zoom to chat about how God directs us and how we cultivate "spiritual eyes" to see what God is doing.

Consider These Discussion Questions and Join us on Friday to Discuss Them and Use Them In Your Men's Group

  1. Have you ever had a plan that you felt was solid, only for God to completely redirect you? How did you respond?
  2. Surrender: Frank admits he tried to "control" the speaker line up in 2025 due to outside pressure. Where do we let the opinions of others override what we feel God is saying?
  3. Prophetic Sight: Read the section about young Joseph. How can we cultivate the "spiritual eyes" to see what God is doing in the next generation?
  4. Expectation: Frank's reflection mentions being "hungry for the touch of the Son." What is one area of your life where you are currently asking for an encounter with the Father?

Closing Prayer: Pray specifically for the August 15 Auckland event, asking God to bring in all His sons, and that their hungry hearts will experience an encounter with the Living God.
